Who said New Mexico is all dry, arid desert? Certainly not visitors to Navajo Lake State Park.

Home to the second largest lake in New Mexico, the park is a must-visit for anybody interested in water activities. The 15,000-acre surface of the lake provides plenty of room for vacationers to boat, fish, swim, jet-ski and even scuba dive from late June to early September.

Don't have a boat? No problem. Two of the lake's three main recreation areas offer full-service marinas that rent out boats and other water equipment. The park also has several day-use areas and fishing facilities that are handicap accessible.

Out of the water, visitors to the park can explore miles of hiking trails and check out the surrounding wildlife. Sandy beaches are great spots for sunning, two visitor's centers keep vacationers informed and a small grocery store is there for anyone who gets hungry. And when vacationers are done for the day, they can find plenty of lodging, dining and entertainment in the nearby towns of Farmington, Chama and Aztec.

Who knew the "desert" could be this much fun?
